Seriously? But she did sing Over it once on a video. Maybe it's just my wishful thinking :| .

I forgot to say how happy I am that we are getting bonus tracks :) .

Yeah she sang Over It, but that was all she did acapella, and it wasn't a request! One time she was like..."I'm gonna do a Song for the Week ya'll!" And she never did. :mopey: Regina, if you're reading and ~open for suggestions~, getting Kat to sing in her video blogs has been our biggest goal for almost three years now! :haha:

I'm glad you think Regina knows what she's talking about. :)

I wince every time I hear her referred to as "former American Idol runner up".

I know what you are saying but then again I just saw a story about Kelly Clarkson and they referred to her as the original American Idol. No matter how successful you are, it's pretty hard to totally breakaway from it. And it's isn't a terrible thing as long as you progress beyond it which is what Katharine is trying to do (and has done to some extent). But until she's got that HUGE song that everybody knows...she's still most known for being the runner-up on American Idol so you'll have to live with that one for awhile longer. Now, Verve doesn't need to be calling her that of course (and they aren't). Just depends on the source of the article/release.

No idea. She really does look gorgeous no matter what, though, don't you think?

Sure, but she looks more gorgeous certain ways.

I find it sad that they don't have the rights to Kat's first album. There are some good songs on there that we never got to hear her sing live.

I'm confused by this one...doesn't Katharine own the rights to her own music? By that I mean...can't she perform songs from the debut album on tour if she wants? I know Verve couldn't repackage the songs and make money of it themselves but I'd think Kat could sing Neglected if she wanted on tour. REGINA?

edit: wait, what time is it?!

I forgot how the timestamps work here and I saw 7:29 AM and thought that meant you posted this at 7:29 AM London time (which is probably ridiculous knowing you)...so I was calculating in my head and thought, "11:29 PM here, 2:29 AM in NY!" Then I saw Jenn's answer and realized I'm stupid.

Some people from another fandom were discussing the sweeps and I was under the impression there was no such a thing as February sweeps anymore. It seems I was wrong. It's okay, though. The closer to the cd release, the better.

February sweeps! Kat was on Ugly Betty during Feb sweeps!
Under construction.

If I recall, last year they moved the sweeps. But I can be wrong.

I remember that Kat said she would sing songs, but you're right... she never did.

Hello Miss Regina, I am so glad you got the chance to join us wacky, crazy, CARING and most awesomest Kat fans on board here at KMC! I was wondering who this Regina they were talking about and got to reading your responses, and thought to myself, WOW! We are the most lucky fanbase ever! Someone from Kat's label a member of our little community?! I can't thank you enough for accommodating our questions!

Okay, now here's mine:

Since you already mentioned that the album goes out internationally and that there is already a possible launch date in the UK ( :spaz: ), how soon will we know about other places, say like Asia? I know a lot of Kat fans in this side of the world and Love Story did really well in this part of the world, as well as Over It. I'm sure she'll do amazing again if given the chance.

Also, when is HIA gonna be released internationally? Is the Universal Records here in the Philippines connected to the Universal Music Group there in the US? I'm just wondering.

Thank you so much!! Looking forward to your response!

Maybe Regina just meant "no need to wait for the May Sweeps, you will be able to see Katharine in February." Period. Not "February Sweeps"?

Katharine would be able to perform songs from her first album on tour and would pay royalties to the owners I think? Isn't that the whole point of owning a song that people pay you money every time they use it?

I just want to say thank you so much, Regina and welcome! :w00twave: Wow, this is so very, very cool!

Here's a question:

Will you (or whoever does this) try to get Kat to sing the National Anthem if the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants make the playoffs?

Note: Although, the Giants & Dodgers are huge rivals, I think you could try to pitch the idea to the Giants because San Fran was the home of Kat's AI audition, and she's a California girl. Regardless, she really should try to get one of these upcoming games. Also she could sing "God Bless America," during the 7th inning stretch, which they usually have a variety of artists singing during the big playoff games.

I'm reposting because I'm afraid this question got overlooked. Also, it really doesn't have to be for just the Giants or Dodgers, ANY playoff game would be good. Let's get this girl exposure, exposure, exposure!

This isn't a question, it is a request.

I don't think that Regina is responsible for this kind of promotion. Wouldn't it be better to just ask Regina for the contact email address for the person who is? And we can get that sorted out once and for all and not have zillions of similar requests fill up this thread and exasperate everyone!

no she doesn't but that doesn't mean she can't perform those songs, just like she can perform other people's songs

edit: oops, wrong thread :haha:

Doesn't Kat automatically have rights to the songs she has writing credits for?

It is probably a complicated legal matter.

All I know about it is from what happened to John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

They don't own the songs they wrote. Michael Jackson's estate and some corporation does. If I want to use a Beatles song in say a TV commercial I would have to ask MJs estate and the corporation and they would get the royalty fee. I suppose Paul and John's estate would get some percent of that?

It was and still is a real sticking point with early blues and jazz and rock and roll artists that they usually gave away all rights to their work for a few dollars because they were starving musicians and any deal seemed like a good deal.

It would probably take an entertainment lawyer to explain all the complications and layers of ownership.

Yes, Regina probably knows some good ones. Perhaps, she can direct any who wants to do some pro bono work to this thread to clarify this matter for us.

just a suggestion. might be easier if questions were sent to kevin, who could then make a post for each question in a new thread (without displaying the username), and over a time interval we can +/- them to see which have the greatest interest from the community.

We should figure something out so Regina doesn't have to dig through various pages of posts to find questions.

Jenn could post them at the bottom of her first post

I think most of our urgent concerns have been answer. Why don't you create a weekly question thread and specify that thread is for questions ONLY and no other comments allowed.

Certainly we can reduce the miscellaneous discussions that go on here.

One suggestion: instead of the suggested weekly Q&A thread (because we may not fill up a weekly thread enough and there shouldn't be a time limit), we close this particular topic (due to the size) and keep it read only and then open up a new one (called "Questions for Regina, part 2" or something) and let that go until it reaches a certain size, and repeat. We could either unpin the closed topics or put them as read only in a Verve Answers subforum or something like that. I don't know if it's a good idea to make Regina go to multiple topics to answer questions (especially since we can't pin them all), but that's really up to her (ETA: unless the poster meant send to Kevin who funnels to Regina. In that case, I prefer the interactive approach we have going now). I think keeping one pinned current topic going for Q&As is working pretty well, though there's room for improvement.

Kevin, is there a way a thread can be monitored? Like, have it so mods can approve posts before they go public? That way, questions can only be approved. We could do that and have a separate thread for discussing Regina's answers?

I think we can do that! I'll check!
