Post your reactions and thoughts on the "Smash" pilot as you see it!

I think it's fantastic. May be a little slow at the beginning (still great), but once it picks up steam -- WOW!! Amazing. Kat is phenomenal in her character!

I love how the show really pulls you into the world its creating. This show has to SMASH!

I think it is just going to get better after the first episode. Not going to lie, I seriously thought the first 15-20 minutes were slow as heck and I was like wtf!! It's already half way over, and they've hardly showed Kat at all! But it definitely got better as it went. They just needed to introduce everything which is expected.

There wasn't much to hate about Ivy to be honest. She wasn't that bitchy!
I love Eileen!!! Ellis' acting... that's what his character calls for so that didn't bother me much. Kat's acting I felt could have been better, but was definitely impressive. The show was still entertaining all things considered and even though I have seen this over and over, the ending still gave me that chilly feeling and I definitely wanted more.

Oh yeah, another thing about the beginning too is that I felt like everything was moving so fast, they were moving so fast between characters and scenes, but it got better.

And I honestly think it will be better in HD and better color quality. Because that affected it a little bit for me, plus the last half the timing was off a little with the audio so that was distracting. When I watched Shark Night in crap quality I hated it, but when I watched that full version on youtube, I can actually show a little more respect for the movie now because it was that much better :P
Thank God for Katharine McPhee.

Hot damn, I thought it was fantastic. I really enjoyed the show. I don't think I was bored by anything, at least not for any noticable time. It all just came together nicely. I thought everyone did well.

I thought Kat was very natural in her performance and nothing stuck out like a sore thumb with her. She seemed to blend into the cast very nicely.

The musical sequences were very well done and quite enjoyable. I enjoyed the entire baseball number, even though I didn't enjoy parts of the number when we got the leaked audio. I guess the visuals helped. I really enjoyed the ending duet. That just really worked and was a great ending.

FYI the pilot that leaked is not the most recent version! :haha:

the Tom/Julia/Ellis scene at the very beginning when Tom has just returned from his trip was re-shot. I thought it was much better in the pilot they screened.

the Ivy/Tom scene has replaced the scene where Ivy complains about being in the ensemble.

the dinner scene with the parents was edited just a teensy bit.

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEED IT! THE ENDING IS SO EPIC! It starts off slow and the adoption story is a little dull, but it definitely picks up expecially when you see more of Karen and Ivy.

I was really impressed by Kat's acting, it was a lot more natural than I was expecting. There was only a line or two that stood out as PBA, but overall, she was great.

Hilty was decent-ish, a little over the top but we all expected that. :haha:

The weakest link is Ellis, who is just terrible. And cheesy.

Kevin, can I suggest retitling the topic to Smash episode discussion - "Pilot" (S01E01) (and use that template for future episodes)? That way it's more clear and maybe easier to find future episodes among the clutter of topics.

Oh and Katharine sounds FANTASTIC in the little clip of Karen singing along to the leaked demo of "Never Give All the Heart." I hope that song is revisited in a future episode!

You know I'm not gonna sit here and analyze in paragraphs. I'll just say that I unbiasedly loved it. Kat was every bit as good as I expected her to be, and if you know me you know I always expect her to be flawless, and she always delivers. One thing that amazed me is that after hearing the final number in it's entirey several times before, and seeing a good portion of the ending countless other times, it still got my heart racing like I had never experienced it before.

tl;dr I'm so fucking happy I could cry
Katharine McPhee on the auditioning process -
"I love the idea of going in there and changing someone's mind about who they think you are."

Can i just ask the people who i gave the links to, to only share the links to the people who you know and can trust not to spread it around. new accounts who only have a couple of posts in their history, might not be as trustworthy.

I liked the first half but I thought the choreography got a little sloppy in the middle.

I wasn't really bothered by Ellis. He's played by a newcomer and the character is young and an idealist, so I'll give him a bit of a break. We'll see how he does in future episodes.

I was really impressed by the quality of the pilot, visually speaking. It almost seemed like a movie. I hope they can keep the visual quality up to some degree.

I think I'm going to have to watch this a few more times.

I was grinning the whole time I was watching. Really impressed by everyone's acting. Specially that Debra Messing scene when she was describing why she wanted to do the musical. Kat was outstanding in the scene in the director's apartment, and the scene in the bathroom was really powerful. And of course that ending! Despite having watched it so many times in the previews, watching the whole thing the way it was edited gave me chills.
