Hi, I'm dalki, same as on IDF. I don't know if I'll post on a regular basis. We'll see how things go. But here's a regular posting to start off with.

For the week ending April 12, 2009 (a lot of increased sales were due to Easter and the Academy of Country Music awards, plus, the Hannah Montana movie took first place at the box office this weekend, benefiting the soundtrack):
Top 10 albums sales:
1-NEW Rascal Flatts, Unstoppable, 351,000
2-5 Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack, 196,000
3-NEW Jadakiss, Last Kiss, 135,000
4-NEW Jason Aldean, Wide Open, 109,000
5-4 Various Artists, Now 30, 99,000
6-10 Taylor Swift, Fearless, 82,000
7-1 Keith Urban, Defying Gravity, 72,000
8-7 Various artists, Twilight soundtrack, 68,000
9-2 Prince, LotusFlow3r, 66,000
10-9 Lady Gaga, The Fame, 56,000

Album sales were up 6% from this week last year.

Idol sales from Idol Chatter:
QUOTE
Between the Academy of Country Music awards, a new Rascal Flatts album and Kellie Pickler's American Idol performance, country music did all right for itself last week -- and so did any associated Idols.

Rascal Flatts' Unstoppable debuted at an easy Number One on Nielsen SoundScan's list of Top Current Albums, selling 351,000 units (which eventually will mean a nice additional royalty check for Chris Sligh, who co-wrote the album's first single, Here Comes Goodbye, which also sold 35,000 downloads). Unstoppable was also the top digital album, with 58,000 digital scans.

Carrie Underwood nearly doubled her weekly sales of Carnival Ride, moving 32,000 copies (up from 16 the week before), putting her back in the Top 20 of current albums. With all the country albums getting bumps from the ACMs, she remains at #5 on the country chart. Carrie also saw a 61 percent increase in digital scans, putting her at 2,000 for the week and 201,000 total.

Say what you will about the quality of Kellie Pickler's performance of Best Days of Your Life on Idol, it helped boost sales of her self-titled album a whopping 174 percent, pushing her past 6,000 units (she was at 2,000 the previous week) and putting her back on the main chart at #112 and on the country chart at #24. Downloads of Best Days of Your Life increased even more -- a staggering 257 percent, to 47,000.

Other Idols and Idol-related albums on the current-albums chart:

#12 Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted (40,000, +18 percent, 471,000 total; digital 4,000, -17 percent, 101,000 total)

#17 Flo Rida, R.O.O.T.S. (32,000, -43 percent, 87,000)

#28 David Cook, David Cook (21,000, -14 percent, 1.09 million total; digital 2,000, -62 percent, 124,000 total)

#37 Chris Botti, Chris Botti Live in Boston (which features Katharine McPhee on one track) (16,000, -55 percent, 52,000 total; digital 1,000, -63 percent, 4,000 total)

#102 Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Hudson (7,000, -9 percent, 698,000 total)

#133 David Archuleta, David Archuleta (5,000, +35 percent, 682,000 total)

#154 Mandisa, Freedom (5,000, -12 percent, 17,000 total)

#161 Daughtry, Daughtry (4,000, +6 percent, 4.42 million total; 360,000 digital total)

Here's the data for current digital tracks:

Flo Rida, Right Round (180,000, +9 percent, 2.78 million total)

Kelly Clarkson, My LIfe Would Suck Without You (62,000, -16 percent, 1.65 million)

Kellie Pickler, Best Days of Your Life (47,000, +257 percent, 187,000)

Rascal Flatts, Here Comes Goodbye (35,000, -6 percent, 306,000)

David Cook, Come Back to Me (20,000, -49 percent, 80,000)

Carrie Underwood, Home Sweet Home (17,000, -14 percent, 211,000)

David Cook, Light On (14,000, -21 percent, 888,000)

David Archuleta, Crush (11,000, -4 percent, 1.69 million)

Kelly Clarkson, I Do Not Hook Up (7,000, +32 percent, 38,000)

Jennifer Hudson, If This Isn't Like Love (7,000, -2 percent, 81,000)

David Archuleta, A Little Too Not Over You (7,000, +1 percent, 158,000)

But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face & that you'd be reminded,

I do wonder what's going on with David A. His second single seems to be a bust. That kind of thing happens of course, but what is Jive going to do? If he was with RCA, they would probably not do any more singles and drop him. Will Jive try a third single, just move on to the second album, or drop him?

He's touring with Demi Levato which opens him up even more to the Disney kids. So I think Jive will atleast try one more single. Just don't let the fans pick it this time!

Also his second single choice SUCKED so thats why he is doing so poorly.

Catch-all Topic for Idol stuff that don't really deserve or need their own topics.

Mods, can this be pinned so posters can easily see it?

First off, from this article, Season 6 contestant Sanjaya Malakar is joining the cast of the revived reality show "I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here"!

QUOTE
The former Idol' teen heartthrob has joined the new NBC reality show, along with Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of “The Hills,” former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, supermodel-turned-reality TV star Janice Dickinson, Geraldo Rivera and Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman.

The reality competition starts June 1 and will run for four weeks as the celeb contestants try to survive in the tropical jungles of Costa Rica without killing and eating each other, like they do in the jungles of Hollywood.

Where has Sanjaya been of late? Well, turns out he recently released his memoirs and an album about his Idol experiences.

Really? First we've heard.

Both are titled “Dancing to the Music In My Head."

All we wanna know is what kind of hair products Sanjaya will use to tame his coif in that dense jungle humidity.

One thing's for sure, Sanjaya's appearance on "Get me out of here" will definitely help promote his new book and memoirs.

Man, that is a pathetic cast of publicity hounds. I guess Heidi and Spencer feel they aren't getting enough attention.

crying, I'm not sure I like sales being merged with Miscelleneous Idol discussion, as it makes it harder to find the sales information. But if you keep it this way, can you change the title to Miscellaneous Idol Discussion? That way, it signifies a catch-all topic for stuff that doesn't already have its own topic or doesn't really need one. Thanks.

You're welcome. I don't really sense an urgent need from the members here to talk a lot about idol though unless it's this current season, which has a thread. So if it turns out that this thread isn't used much I'll just unpin and and people can find the topic or make new ones.

But keeping with the topiccccccccc. Everyone watch this! w00t.gif

crying, now that you merged this with the sales thread, it will have posts at least once a week.

We may have moved from IDF, but the folks here still love Idol and Idol contestants, so I don't see Idol discussion ending.

Also, I guess this will suffice for discussing AI Rewind. Is anyone watching this? They are currently on reruns of their Season 4 look-back and will probably finish up on Season 4 in May. Rewind really disappointed me with how they handled Season 3. They squished Hollywood, the semifinals and Top 12 into about 5 episodes and didn't get interviews with Jennifer Hudson or Fantasia. They are handling Season 4 better, including having interviews with Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice, but they are only showing highlights and not complete episodes.

Idol Sales from Idol Chatter:
QUOTE
Jennifer Hudson shone through in what was otherwise a pretty dim week for Idol sales last week. As a result of her performance on last week’s American Idol results show, sales of both If This Isn’t Love and Spotlight more than doubled.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, If This Isn’t Love picked up 19,000 downloads, a 172 percent increase over the previous week, which puts the track’s total digital scans past the 100,000 mark. Spotlight saw a 144 percent jump, as it sold 7,000 downloads (450,000 total). The Jennifer Hudson album also saw healthy 36 percent growth, its 9,000 sales pushing it past the 700,000 mark. On the digital side, the increase was even more pronounced – 247 percent! – though the total was still relatively small (2,000/49,000 total).

Carrie Underwood had the best-selling Idol album, as Carnival Ride sold 20,000 copies (-39 percent, 2.79 million; 2,000 digital, -16 percent, 203,000 digital total).

Miley Cyrus' The Climb remained essentially unchanged on SoundScan's Digital Tracks Current chart, although remaining steady at 190,000 downloads is no small feat these days.

Other albums of note:

Rascal Flatts, Unstoppable (107,000, -69 percent, 458,000 total; 19,000 digital, -67 percent, 77,000 total)
Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted (19,000, -51 percent, 490,000; 3,000 digital, -13 percent, 104,000)
Chris Botti, Chris Botti Live in Boston (9,000, -44 percent, 61,000)
David Cook, David Cook (9,000, -57 percent, 1.1 million; 1,000 digital, -34 percent, 125,000)
Kellie Pickler, Kellie Pickler (4,000, -37 percent, 198,000/15,000 digital)
Daughtry, Daughtry (3,000, -23 percent, 4.42 million/360,000 digital)
Mandisa, Freedom (3,000, -35 percent, 22,000)
David Archuleta, David Archuleta (3,000, -47 percent, 685,000)

Prominent digital tracks:

Kelly Clarkson, My Life Would Suck Without You (49,000, -21 percent, 1.70 million total)
Kellie Pickler, Best Days of Your Life (44,000, -6 percent, 231,000)
Carrie Underwood (feat. Randy Travis), I Told You So (23,000, -36 percent, 252,000)
Jennifer Hudson, If This Isn’t Love (19,000, +172 percent, 100,000)
David Cook, Come Back to Me (11,000, -45 percent, 91,000)
David Archuleta, Crush (9,000, -18 percent, 1.70 million)
Carrie Underwood, Home Sweet Home (8,000, -56 percent, 218,000)

Update: Nielsen SoundScan has graciously provided us more data that some of you had requested. I'll sort it by artist.

Jordin Sparks: Her Tattoo track sold fewer than 3,000 downloads last week (1.94 million total). No Air sold more than 4,000 (2.9 million), and One Step at a Time also sold 4,000 (1.24 million). Her album sold just shy of a thousand units, and its total sales are right in the 1 million range.

Carrie Underwood: Her duet version of I Told You So with Randy Travis outsold her solo version by a 2-to-1 margin last week, 23,000 to 11,000. Total for her solo version: 166,000. Total for the duet: 252,000.

Kelly Clarkson: Thankful (2.72 million sales total) and My December (791,000) each sold less than a thousand copies last week. Breakaway sold more than a thousand, and it's current release-to-date total is 6.07 million.

And last, but not least, Taylor Hicks' The Distance: a thousand units for a total of 23,000.

According to Pulse, Melinda's at nearly 43,000, so no.

It's not really a fair comparison since Melinda's on her first and Taylor's on his second.

It is as close a comparison as he is going to have though as they both are on small Indies with limited airplay. Actually TH has charted better on AC than Melinda. But his single is already dropping.
