HAD IT ALL LIVE ACOUSTIC. BETTER THAN THE RECORDED TRACK. SO EPIC. Kat goes into her false on "blue skies, sunshine, and butterflies" OMFG. She needs to record an acoustic version please!!!!!         I'm so happy I went to this. :'(

My dear pals,
You're going to have to change the name of this thread! I got laid off by Verve today. It was nothing personal: there were cuts all across Universal. It sucks, and I'm really sad at the moment (i loved my job, and loved all of my friends at Verve, who really are the best in the biz), but I'm going to be ok, I think.

Kat's going to be ok, too: Kim Jakwerth, her PR guru, is phenomenal, and the team at Universal Music Enterprises is going to take over her marketing effective immediately.

So even if i'm no longer official, and no longer have the inside dope, can I pop in from time to time?

It's been so great getting to know so many of you. You really are the best fans, and Kat's a very lucky woman.

BEST KAT CONCERT EVER!!!!!!    VOCALS PERFORMANCE WALMART SOUND.....

I truly do love all of you.  Every one of you.  It doesn't matter if you've been a Kat fan 6 years or 6 months.  You have believed in her when things didn't always look good.  Did we get cryptic and bitter sometimes?  Yes, of course we did.  But we always stuck by her hoping one day her star would rise and the world would see this amazing woman that we all hold dear to our heart.

And now, here she comes.  This is her moment... and we saw it all along.  We may not always get along or agree with one another, but we have a bond that keeps us together.  I can't describe it.  I doubt anyone can, but our passion is united and I don't care how corny it sound: I am honored to be a part of this fanbase.  

I just wanted to take a moment to declare this virtual group hug and say, here it comes guys.  Our girl is going places and we went along with her through the bumpy ride thus far.  We hit the dead ends with her, and we paved new territory to find a way back in the end.  Katharine has fought for this and we have fought for it with her.  We believed and now her dreams and our wishes for her become a reality.

No matter what happens, I look forward to continuing following this journey with all of you.  And let's just say this to all the people who did NOT believe in her: Smash that, bitches.  Smash that.

So as some of you know I live in Portugal and have been a HUGE HUGE Kat fan since the Idol beginning. I love her more than any other artist in the world and I know you all know that feeling. The thing is I know that I won't probably ever have the chance to meet her or see her at an concert like some of you do so when shaq offered himself to get me an autographed copy of HIA at Macys I FREAKED OUT!!!!!! 10 days had gone by and I literally had lost all the hope of ever getting the cd. My friends kept teasing me because I would always talk about it and they said I wouldn't ever get it.

So today one minute after emailing shaq asking him if I should just give up on it since too much time had passed, a thought crossed my mind and for the FIRST time EVER I decided to go myself check my mailbox (it's always my dad that does that). I go out, it's raining and I'm like "why am i doing this?", i open the mail box AND THERE'S A SMALL PACKAGE THERE addressed to me and coming from the USA! I open it AND IT'S KAT'S CD SINGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND IT SAYS MY NAME ON IT!!!!!! :'(   :'(  

I can't express how I FEEL ABOUT THIS. It's just so overwhelming to know that it was Kat that signed this herself and wrote my name on it. I have been jumping around the house like a crazy guy!!! Even my mom is like totally hysteric even if she doesn't know who the hell Kat is.

OMG THIS IS SO INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been really heartbreaking watching the coverage, so I made this using Kat's "Unbroken" song. (not sure how to embed it here though, sorry if it doesn't work.)

Okay, so despite the fact that the night will forever be jumbled up in my head because it was just that special to me, I'm gonna try to get this recap written because I feel like there are some great stories that I wanna share with my McPhan friends!  I won't bore you too much with background story but feel free to skim through parts that you find more interesting and what-not.  Sorry for the length!!! Had a lot to say!!!!

PRE-SHOW

I went up to Boston with my sister Jessica who is also a big Katharine fan.  I wouldn't say she follows her as much as we do, but I keep her updated, she knows all of her songs, and genuinely loves her!  So it was great to go with her being just as excited as me and not have to drag her there!  When we were driving up to Boston, we listened to some Kat to gear up and during "Say Goodbye" she said something like, "I had to see if the AC was hitting my leg, but nope -- it's just goosebumps!"     

So we got to Boston in a little over and hour and a half after a bit of traffic, but we expected that so left with ample time to spare.  Got some food and all that.  Going into this concert, we knew there wouldn't be a formal meet & greet like Kat usually does at her shows since this is the kind of fancy business party even where the performers are the background of a cocktail party.  We were ~informed~ to wait by the stage door at the end of the show, so we spotted the door before heading in!  When the symphony hall doors opened at 7:30 (after a "private cocktail hour"), we got seated!  Rather than typical theater seating, this event had the floor filled with little cocktail tables -- the private tables that had no been available for the public had their own big bottles of wine and everything.  I don't think I've ever been to such a fancy event!

THE SHOW ...

We got seated by this adorable older couple -- the man being a World War II vet and the wife being the woman who arranged all the flowers for the event.  They were really sweet and chatted up with us while we waited for the show to begin!  I think my sister and I were some of the very few people in the 20's there!  The public seating tables were not full at all, but I figure that's because the event was billed as 'Sold Out' just until a few days ago.  

Anyway, the show goes as I outlined above!  It was really nice and different!  Not that I would have gone if it wasn't for Kat, but I did enjoy myself!  But Kat's closing the show after intermission!  So we're anxiously awaiting that!

Fast-forward to after intermission!  Thankfully the Pops did a little number while everyone got seated because these people were taking their sweet time!   But everyone was all situated as the conductor excitedly introduced our girl!!!!

Katharine comes out with a bang as she totally slays "Somewhere" (she was wearing the same outfit as the Smash premiere -- you know, the one with the orange pants).  I haven't heard good recordings of her performances of this from her past few orchestra shows and I know mine doesn't do her much justice either due to quality, but I think this may have been her best version of it yet.  I feel like she has been training in prep for Smash because she NAILED that final note.  Even on the Foster DVD, you can hear her trying to drag it out and break it up for breath but for this she was just SO powerful and did one clean final note.  LOVED it.  SO many chills.   The crowd was really impressed and she got the most enthusiastic applause of the evening (bar when some local sports legends from over the years were called to the stage).  You probably can't hear this in my audio, but the older man seated across from us leaned toward his wife and said, "I was not expecting such a big voice from such a small girl!"

I posted audio so you guys basically know how the show went.  If you have any questions about the things she was saying during her banters, just ask and I can try to recall!  I know it's a little hard to hear her!  She said a lot of funny things so try to give a close listen!  She was adorable!   When she first started talking, people must have just thought she was cute 'cause they were laughing at everything she said and she was like "What's so funny?!?!?"   But yeah the next song she did was "I've Got You Under My Skin" (scolded the conductor for his spoiler since he had already told the audience she performed at the same hall with Chris Botti!  and she basically pulled the same trick as Botti did saying you may recognize this little melody), I think it was around here after the song when she said "Are  you guys cheering so much just so I can get off the stage???  Just kidding!!!"  Then she did "Unbroken/Use Somebody/Firework" (she introduced Unbroken saying she went to school at Boston Conservatory and loved partying studying there and Paula Cole was one of her local inspirational artists and she was honored to come down to Boston on a snowy weekend to write the song with her), "Say Goodbye" (a song she "found in Nashville" at the time she felt she was losing someone close to her in life), and then she pretended to end the show with "Brand New Key/Faith" ("Anyone who's over 45 -- which I doubt any of you are since you look so young [[[not true btw ]]] you will recognize this song!!")  The crowd was really into this -- clapping along to it and all!  It actually got a little bit of a standing O at the end (maybe because people really thought it was her last song) but they quickly said OKAY! ONE MORE! pretending the conductor has to convince her to do one more!

"They just didn't want me to fall trying to get off the stage because of my heels!"  Kat says before introducing her last song; which, of course, is "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".  She sleighs it as always!  SO amazing  to finally get to hear Kat's signature song live. Absolutely incredible!!!  I was expecting the entire crowd to shoot to their feet because she deserved it, but unfortunately my sister and I were some of the few to bounce up right after she hit that big note at the end.  However, there's some sweetness in that!  I know you guys will know what I'm talking about when I say she did one of her little waves/wink when you know she's focussing on one person or group of people and not the entire audience.  Well, she did one of those directly toward us (we were the only ones standing in our section) so me and my sis freaked out a little.   

THE MEETING ...

So that was it for her set and my sister and I head out to wait by the stage door.  The pops trickled out of the doors one by one and scurried off into Boston.  About a half hour later, I see NICK COKAS (!!!) come outside to talk to the security guard about their ride saying they're ready to head out!  I turned to my sister and go, "THAT'S NICK!!!" so we braced ourselves knowing Kat's coming as Nick goes back in to get her!  Kat comes out and we say hi to her and she lights up HI GUYS!!!!!! she is the sweetest and instantly goes in for a hug with me and then my sister.  She knew exactly who I was and I think that was because of twitter, but it was still an amazing feeling! She apologizes for taking so long to come out because she had a "long meet and greet" backstage!  We assure her there's no need to apologize and thank her for waiting for US!!!  She tells us how amazing it is for her to be able to look out into a crowd and see familiar faces and hear familiar voices through cheers and knowing she has fans out there that have really been there for her through it all.  She really knows how to say all the right things!   So yeah we proceed to greet her and tell her how amazing she was but Nick is standing behind her so I had to say hello to him!!  She turns around and she's like "Nick, that's Kevin!!!!" and he lit up and rushed over to shake my hand!  He is the nicest guy!!!!  "So nice to finally meet you, Kevin!!!!"

Then Kat looks at me and she says something like , "Kevin, you look so cute tonight!"     I'm trying not to freak out by how surreal this all is and I'm like, "Thanks! We had to dress up a little bit for this!"   If only I wasn't so awkward!   Oh well!  Then she says my twitter name "Kevin says!! on twitter!"  She talks about how she saw the tweet about us driving up and she said she had thought were we from Boston.  She asked how long of a drive it is (about an hour) and she thanked us again for coming up!  You know, just being her amazing sweet self.

We then go in for pictures as we don't wanna keep them waiting too long!  She was wrapped her arm around my back and gave me a gentle little pat!   !!!!      And then she goes in  for a picture with my sister and as she does that, she says "What are you guys gonna do after this tonight?!" and my sister replies "We gotta head back since I have a baby at home!"  Kat must have thought my sister was younger or something because her reaction was priceless.  She stared right at her like (legit Daughtry elimination face)  "YOU HAVE A BABY?!?!?!? HOW OLD ARE YOU!!!!!?!!"  My sis is like "24!! "  And Kat's like "OH!!! OKAY!! I have a friend who had a baby young at 20" or something.   IDK it was priceless!!!   So they take a picture after that of course.

As I said, we didn't wanna keep them waiting too long but I stroke up convo one final time saying how excited we and the fans are for Smash.  Both Kat and Nick loved to hear that saying they are SO excited too AND Kat then said there's also BIG NEWS (!!!!) coming soon and we are the first people she's telling that to!   Nick then followed that up with "Yes!  It should be coming within the next few days"     They both seemed genuinely excited about it so I feel like it may actually be a big deal!!!! I said something like, "Ooh, I'll have to keep my mouth shut!"  And Kat's like "No! You don't have to!  You can let the fans speculate a little! "  So speculate!!!   We then giggle about how us fans looooove to speculate and they know that!

So it's time for our goodbyes!   Katharine keeps thanking US for coming and waiting for her outside to which my sister and I thank HER for waiting for us and being so amazing.  Kat's then like you are SO sweet I wanna hug you again!  and scurries over and give me a lil bear hug.   i Love her hugs!!!   She hugs my sis as well and Nick comes over one last time to shake my hand and say how happy is to meet me and thanks me for all the help I do for them!   I tell them how I love to help them!  They seemed so grateful!   And then we all head our separate ways!

Sigh!  I don't know how much sense I made or if I even covered everything but it was all so amazing and I could not have asked for a better evening!!!  Thanks to both Katharine and Nick for being such amazing people.

You guys!!!!!! It's a wonder I'm not a blubbering mess right now. Gawd, what did I do to deserve this outpouring of affection? You're the best. Sigh.
