In addition to filming and recording music for ‘Smash’ since the summer of 2011, Katharine has been working on a new solo record to be released by Columbia Records. As of now, the album is scheduled for a summer release. Kat is working closely with A&R Teresa L. Whites, who has crafted albums with the likes of Britney Spears, Beyoncé, P!NK, and so many more.
While Katharine herself has been quite tight-lipped about the record thus far, fans should not expect another “Unbroken” (2010). She recently said, “I’m kind of keeping it a little bit close to the sleeve. I know I don’t want to have a really solemn and dark record. I want something that’s fun, that feels sophisticated but youthful.”
Although nothing else has been officially announced, we have dug up plenty of scoop about the recording process for this album!
Katharine has been working with hit-making producers, including Toby Gad, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Chris Braide, and Ian Kirkpatrick. She has also written songs with Sia Furler, Kara Dioguardi, Shelly Peiken, Lucie Silvas, Lindy Robbins, Robert Wells, and many more. Katharine recently posted an Instagram photo while writing in the studio with Ross Golan.
While none of these songs are confirmed to be on the record as of yet, some song titles of tracks that have been written or recorded include: “Push Me,” “Flip A Coin,” “Round Your Little Finger,” “Note to Self,” “Backwards,” “Simply You,” “Dance With Me,” “Slow Motion,” and “Unexpected Lovesong.” For a compiled list of song titles and collaborators that are known to be working on the record so far, head over to the album’s KMC Discussion Thread. We have posted 15 song titles and over 30 songwriters/producers that are involved in the project!
2013 is going to be an exciting year for Kat fans with a brand new season of ‘Smash’ (and its soundtracks) on the horizon as well as this new record on its way.
