THR: Katharine McPhee on Writing, Recording and ‘The Voice’
Katharine recently chatted with The Hollywood Reporter about her upcoming new album, acting, and her favorite contestant on “The Voice.“ Check out what she had to say about getting personal in the songwriting process for her new record:
“I find the songwriting process a daunting thing. It’s not like being on a TV show or in a movie playing a part. You can hide behind someone’s words and be the character and not take responsibility for how it was written and you do the best with what you’re given. But when you’re writing a record, and making a record, you have to stand behind it.”
You can read the full article by clicking here. It’s a great read and it will surely get you excited for Kat’s upcoming projects! Kat’s much-anticipated new album will hit stores this fall.
Katharine to star in new thriller ‘Depravity’
According to Deadline, Katharine has become attached to star in ‘Depravity’, a thriller with a script by Dennis Lehane and Paul Tamasy set to direct. In the film, a group of roommates accidentally kill an innocent man they thought was a thrill killer. It sends the group into a world unhinged from any moral compass, one in which they may be forced to confront not only the evil around them but the evil within them as well.
McPhee stars as a gorgeous twentysomething the group tries to scapegoat. The film is being produced by Dorothy Aufiero and Todd Eckert. McPhee is repped by The Schiff Company and WME. Stay tuned for more information!

‘Smash’ cancelled after two seasons
After opening to disappointing ratings in its second season and subsequently getting moved to Saturday nights, ‘Smash’ has now been officially cancelled by NBC.
“Sure, I wish that it could have five more seasons, but we had two great seasons and all I can say is I loved every moment of it,” Katharine recently told The Hollywood Reporter in response to the fate of ‘Smash’, “I loved getting to the set, I loved the people, I loved my crew. We did amazing things on the show in two years.”
There are still three episodes remaining before we say goodbye to ‘Smash’ for good. A brand new episode airs tonight at 8PM (7c) and then the two-hour series finale (two back-to-back new episodes) will air on Sunday, May 26 from 9PM-11PM (8-10c).
