• 05 Oct 2008 - Flashback: Remembering the Star Spangled Banner, Orange Bowl by Ken | 0 Comments

Katharine came up big with her performance of the Star Spangled Banner on Jan. 3, 2008. Producing her most flawless performance of the anthem yet, Katharine navigated through one of the most difficult song's there is to sing. Moreover, her introduction as "actress and recording artist" marked the start of the promotion of Katharine's acting career. | HQ Audio: Click here

• 03 Oct 2008 - New Katharine Interview w/ Singapore Newspaper by Kevin | 0 Comments
Here is a new article from a newspaper in Singapore about Katharine. It features some quotes from a recent interview about her past weight struggles, movies, and music -- including confirmation that she is currently in the signing processes with another label and that her sophomore album will be released in early 2009! This is a great read, so be sure to check it out!

The Electric New Paper: SEXY, beautiful and svelte are words that are often used to describe American Idol finalist Katharine McPhee.

But she is far from that in her movie debut, The House Bunny.

Well, at least in the first half of the film.

In the female-driven comedy, which opened in cinemas here yesterday, the 24-year-old singer-turned-actress plays a pregnant hippie chick who belongs to an uncool, much-mocked misfit sorority - until a recently-evicted Playboy bunny (Anna Faris) becomes the girls' den mother and transforms them from ugly ducklings to swans.

You wouldn't have guessed it, but McPhee herself admitted to feeling like an outsider who struggled with weight and body image issues at a young age while growing up in looks-obsessed Los Angeles. • Read More

• 30 Sep 2008 - Opinion: The Best Versions of Over It by Ken | 0 Comments

The one song that probably is most well-known from Katharine's post idol career is the lead single off her debut album, Over It.

Over It was first discovered by fans on the online service Promosquad, which allows record companies to post tracks without any information about the artist in order to gain feedback from listens as to what they think of the track.

For many fans, it was hard to believe that it was actually Katharine singing on the track. Because her vocals were so processed. However, it had a catchy quality, and when fans were asked to vote on which of the three Kat promosquad songs they liked the best, Over It easily beat "Open Toes" and "Each Other."

Over It would be selected as the lead single, coming out in January of 2007, shortly before her album was released. It drove over 500,000 downloads, and charted on the radio waves reasonably well. Nevertheless, because it wasn't pushed in every part of the country, it never got widespread radio play geographically. The music video, conversely, debuted at No. 1 on TRL, and did get some airtime on the MTV show.

The following is my list of the best versions of the song:

1. Videoblog - Feb. 12, 2007
This performance was arguably one of Katharine's most emotive ever, regardless of what song she was singing. In the comfort of her own home (looks to be a bathroom), Katharine sang to her fans a "bed time story, or early morning wake-up call if you check your myspace in the morning." Out poured a totally different interpretation of her lead single, and slightly tortured, heartfelt, vulnerable performance. For this author, it brought tears.

2. Over It MigTight Remix - May 8, 2007
This remix was made after Mike Rizzo, aka Mr. Mig, was commissioned to do a remix of Over It by RCA. This was released on a six-track cd that was made available to DJs with different iterations of the remix. All in all, it was clearly one of the most current and credible tracks during the first album era, and if you haven't heard it, check it out here (fourth track in the audio player at the top).

3. Rhapsody Acoustic - June 19, 2007
Although one might say it's a wash between the VH1 Acoustic and the Rhapsody performance, a recent fan vote suggests the VH1 performance was the favorite. Still, for me, the Rhapsody one takes the prize. Listen to both and compare for yourself. As a bonus, you can watch the video

4. Album Version - January 30, 2007
Over It is a song with a good chorus and a nice hook. How could you not like the video with Katharine looking gorgeous?

5. Early Show Live Performance - July 6, 2007
This was probably Katharine's best live performance of this song, at least of the televised ones. As fans have noted, as time wore on, she learned how to sing what is a difficult song to sing live. Katharine was spectacular all around that day on the Early Show. Check out the HQ audio here, and the low quality video here.

Hey Everyone!
Sorry for the lack of updates for the past week or so. I had some computer troubles and was unable to post! Here is a beefy update featuring all the news and updates that you may have missed.

Katharine Myspace Bulletin - September 8
Hi everyone! Wow. I again can’t believe how quickly time flies. It seems like yesterday that I was getting ready for the House Bunny premiere. Being that it was my first premiere, I can’t tell you just how excited I was. Thank you all again for your continued support in everything. You guys helped push it to a very successful #2 opening and its doing amazing still. Its been incredible. Everyone at Adam Sandler’s company as well as Sony has been incredible to work with and so supportive of all us girls and the movie. For a first experience I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Yes, the Barbie song and video has come out. I am really proud of it and had a blast making it. I loved Barbie growing up and its such a fun song and video. Things are good and there are a lot of fun things coming up. Thanks as always for all the support and encouragement. I know I say it all the time but I COULD not make it without you.

Have a great week.

Love,
kat
